Since our establishment in 2015, SAFE in Harlem has secured over a million dollars in funding, enabling us to deliver evidence-based drug and bullying prevention programming. As certified trainers of several evidence-based programs, SAFE in Harlem offers a comprehensive and powerful approach to support your students.
In addition to our in-school facilitation of evidence-based programs, we also operate a youth and teen-led clubhouse called The SAFETY Net, offering a myriad of engaging and educational afterschool initiatives.
By participating, your students will gain life skills, develop self and social awareness, and enhance their social connectedness with the school and each other. These are the building blocks of social-emotional competence, crucial for preventing violence and bullying in school settings.

Incredible Years: Good Dinosaur
As certified facilitators of The Incredible Years: Good Dinosaur EBP, we can help your PreK-2 students enhance their social and emotional competencies. This includes understanding and communicating feelings, using effective problem-solving strategies, managing anger, practicing friendship and conversational skills, and behaving appropriately in the classroom.
The program features interactive tools, such as life-size puppets, designed to captivate children's attention while simultaneously improving their social, emotional, and academic skills.
Too Good For Drugs & Violence
As certified trainers of Too Good For Drugs & Violence EBPs, we can assist K-12 students in developing essential social-emotional skills. This includes identifying and managing emotions, effective communication, refining prosocial peer bonding, understanding substance use effects, and making healthy choices. These skills are crucial for preventing violence and bullying in school settings.
The Too Good programs utilize a variety of manipulatives to maintain student engagement. For younger students (grades K-2), puppets and songs are employed, while older students benefit from fun games and scripts to enhance their learning experience.
The SAFETY Net
SAFE in Harlem after-school programs, led by teens and guided by coalition sector members, involve weekly collaboration to address substance misuse and environmental conditions impacting them. Teens design logic models and formulate 12-month action plans, resulting in community murals, sticker shock campaigns, basketball leagues, community health fairs, public service announcements, and more.
Alongside prevention initiatives, we provide various services, including games, movies, tutoring, music, and mentorship opportunities.
Our current SAFETY Net hours are on Mondays and Thursdays from 2 PM to 5 PM.
