For Youth

Are you a passionate young individual eager to create a positive impact in your community? Look no further than SAFE in Harlem!

Since its establishment in 2015, our organization has thrived, securing over a million dollars in federal and state funding to actively engage youth in prevention-focused grassroots initiatives.

Our SAFE in Harlem leaders have garnered recognition and commendation from prominent public figures, including New York Attorney General Tish James, The New York Public Advocates Office, Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Former Mayor Bill de Blasio, Former Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, NY state Senators, Assembly members, and Congressman Espaillat.

Joining forces with us offers you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in advocacy, government affairs, community outreach, and policy involvement. At SAFE in Harlem, our youth leaders take charge of our coalition, planning and implementing all our efforts and initiatives. Don't wait to make a difference in your community—get involved with SAFE in Harlem today!

The SAFETY Net

If you'd like to engage in fun prevention activities after school, check out SAFE in Harlem after-school programs!

Led by youth and guided by coalition members, these programs involve weekly collaboration addressing the prevention of substance use and corresponding environmental factors.

Our participating youth leaders design logic models, formulate 12-month action plans, and, excitingly, connect with other passionate youth from all around New York City to plan and enact initiatives. Projects include murals, campaigns, basketball leagues, health fairs, and more.

During our SAFETY Net hours on Mondays and Thursdays from 2 PM to 5 PM, we offer prevention initiatives alongside services such as games, movies, tutoring, music, college/career readiness support, and mentorship opportunities.

Leadership Opportunities

Explore the incredible leadership opportunities available to youth as part of SAFE in Harlem! Our commitment goes beyond local engagement – we actively invest in developing our youth leaders.

Twice a year, active SAFE in Harlem leaders are chosen to receive formal leadership training at CADCA’s National Leadership Forums. This immersive experience equips them with the latest strategies to combat substance misuse.

Upon completion of the training, SAFE in Harlem teens leverage their newfound skills to craft comprehensive community action plans and approach community mobilization in innovative ways.

Over the past decade, we've proudly sent more than 50 youth to CADCA conferences held in various locations such as Washington D.C., Texas, Las Vegas, Chicago, and more!
